Listen to 1st Sgt. Christopher Hambaugh speak to his Marines about the significance of the Ground Zero Memorial Run, May 29th. The Marines ran nearly two miles through the financial district of New York to the Ground Zero Memorial in remembrance of those killed on 9/11 and to reflect on the attacks that led the country to war. Most of the Marines in the run joined the Marine Corps after the Sept 11th attacks. Marine Corps recruiters motivate teens and young adults during pull up competition at Fleet Week New York 2012’s Marine Day in Battery Park May 25. Marine Day events are scheduled to take place in Times Square May 26 and 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fleet Week New York 2012 allows more than 3,000 Marines, Sailors and Coast Guardsmen to participate in community outreach events and equipment demonstrations sharing with the public what the military services do every day. Eighteen-year-old, Robert Dones, of Hicksville, N.Y. has dreamed of becoming a Marine since he was 10 years old and had the opportunity to come in with the Parade of Ships aboard USS Wasp, May 23, during Fleet Week New York 2012. Package about Marines with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit led a run to Ground Zero, May 31 in New York, N.Y. The majority of Marines with the 24th MEU joined the Marine Corps after the attacks of Sept. 11. More than 3,000 Marines, Sailors and Coast Guardsmen in the area participating in community outreach events and equipment demonstrations as part of Fleet Week New York 2011. Calverton National Cemetery employees and guests conducts a special ceremony for veterans who had no one attend their funeral, April 13. On the second Wednesday of each month the cemetery organizes a color guard and a flag-folding detail to give proper honors to these deceased service members who were buried without friends or family at their own ceremony. Michael Picerno, Calverton National Cemetery director, estimates that 300-400 veterans are buried each year without friends or family at their service. Also available in high definition.
