Director

Colonel Hoewing is currently serving as the Director for Headquarters Marine Corps Safety Division. He attended the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School (OCS) and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in August 1997. Upon completion of The Basic School, he reported to Naval Aviation Training Command in Pensacola, Florida and was designated a Naval Aviator in July 2000 and assigned the MOS of 7566, CH-53E pilot upon completion of Replacement Aircrew Training.

Colonel Hoewing’s operational assignments include HMH-465 (2001-2003), HMM-265 (REIN) with the 31st MEU (2004), HMH-461 (2005-2006), HMM-264 (REIN) with the 26th MEU (2006-2007), and HMH-362 (2011-2012). He has supported multiple Unit Deployment Program (UDP) cycles to Okinawa, Japan, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM I aboard the USS Boxer, and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 12.2 in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He commanded HMH-465 (2015-2017) and MAG-16 (2021-2023). 

Colonel Hoewing was an instructor at Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics School One (MAWTS-1) in Yuma, Arizona (2007-2010), served as Digital Interoperability Requirements Officer within Headquarters Marine Corps Aviation (2012-2014), and was the Operations Officer at MAG-16 Headquarters. He also served as the Deputy Chief of Fires and Effects (J38) at USCYBERCOM at Fort Meade, MD (2018-2020), the Assistant Chief of Staff / G-5 Plans at 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (2020-2021), and the Director of the ACE Division at Combat Development Directorate, Quantico, VA (2023-2025).

Colonel Hoewing is a graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School (2004-2005) and a Distinguished Graduate from the College of Information and Cyberspace (CIC) at the National Defense University (2017-2018).

Colonel Hoewing’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Gold Stars, Air Medal Strike Flight Numeral “5”, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and multiple Navy Commendation and Navy Achievement Medals.
