Marine Corps Ground Safety Awards

SECNAV Instruction 5100.10K establishes the Secretary of the Navy Excellence Awards. The Marine Corps Ground Safety Awards Program, as outlined in MCO 5100.32A, supplements this program.

 

Marine Corps Ground Safety (Individual and Unit) Awards

The Marine Corps Ground Safety Awards Program provides recognition of commands and personnel for significant contributions and accomplishments made in the field of safety and mishap prevention.


  • Marine Corps Warrior Preservation Award: This award is presented each fiscal year to the Marine Corps installation that has established the most comprehensive safety program. This award consists of a representative trophy, a commemorative wall plaque, and a certificate signed by the Commandant of the Marine Corps. 

Eligibility: All Marine Corps bases, stations, and depots.


  •  Marine Corps Superior Achievement in Safety: This award is an individual award presented annually to one officer, one enlisted, and one government civilian employee who have made the most significant contribution to the Marine Corps Safety Program. This award consists of a commemorative wall plaque and a Marine Corps Safety Division commemorative coin.

 Eligibility: All Marine Corps military and government civilian employees.

     


  • Marine Corps Achievement in Safety Award: This award is presented each fiscal year to one Marine Corps command in each group listed in enclosure (2) of MCO 5100.32A that has established the most outstanding safety program. The award consists of a commemorative wall plaque and a Marine Corps Safety Division commemorative coin.

Eligibility: All Marine Corps commands.

  • Command Safety Awards Program:  MCO 5100.32A also outlines the Command Safety Awards - All Marine Corp commands shall establish a Marine Corps Command Safety Awards Program to recognize the outstanding safety performance of subordinate units and military personnel.

 

In addition, commands which do not fall under the force commands shall establish a safety awards program to recognize the outstanding safety performance of subordinate units and military personnel.

 

Road Warrior (Individual and Unit) Awards

As detailed in MCO 5100.32A, these awards are presented on an ongoing basis to Marine Corps military and government civilian employees and Marine Corps command and units operating government motor vehicles who achieve mishap/violation-free driving mileage in the designated increments. The award consists of a certificate signed by the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Eligibility: All Marine Corps military and government civilian employees and all Marine Corps commands and units.

 

Aviation Mishap-Free Flight Time Award


Due to the cancellation of a Marine Corps Order, the Mishap Free Flight Hour Award Program is suspended.

An announcement is forthcoming in MCO 5100.29C (TBA).



Secretary of the Navy Safety Excellence Awards

Nominations for the Secretary of the Navy Safety Excellence Awards must be received by DASN (Safety) by 1 April 2017 to be considered.

The SECNAV Navy Safety Excellence Awards were established to recognize and congratulate those Navy and Marine Corps commands that have demonstrated exceptional and sustained safety excellence. They highlight activities that have excelled in improving war fighting and mission readiness through professional risk management in the elimination of preventable deaths, injuries, occupational illnesses, infrastructure and material losses, and mission degradation. These awards emphasize the unique importance of safety as a top DON priority.

Navy League - Secretary Gordon R. England Safety Awards

The Secretary Gordon R. England Safety Awards recognize individuals or groups whose actions and example have significantly improved the safety culture within the Navy or the Marine Corps. “The Navy League sponsors these awards to stimulate safety ideas, suggestions, or programs that will reduce mishaps and fatalities by providing special recognition to individuals, units or organizations that exemplify and advance a culture of safety,” said Navy League National President J. Michael McGrath.

In addition to a Navy League scroll, recipients of the safety awards will receive a cash award from proceeds generated by contributions from former Secretary of the Navy Gordon England and his wife as well as multiple corporate sponsors. The amount of the award is determined by the Navy League Awards Selection Board.

National Safety Council Awards

Information about nominations for the National Safety Council Awards can be found at their website. This includes the Instructor of the Year Awards such as the Defensive Driving Courses Alive at 25 [DDCA25 USMC] Award, Defensive Driving Courses Attitudinal Dynamics of Driving [DDC ADD] Award, Rising Star of Safety Award, CEO Who Get It Award, and the Green Cross Award.

Nominations for 2016 Defensive Driving Courses (DDC) Instructor of the Year opened 5 opened 5 December 2016.

Awards will be presented on 23 September 2017 in Indianapolis, IN during the DDC Awards Celebration at the beginning of the 2017 National Safety Congress and Exposition.
